Do you see correlations to 1984 at all in modern times? 1984 written by Orson wells in 49 , Modern Times 36 I think. It is interesting how close they seem then. The Bathroom scene alone makes me think of the Telescreens and big brother.

I was going thur channels bout 3 weeks ago and found this movie I dvr it .I didn't care for the storyline so I just fast foreward to the fight senses. My favorite fight was when Philo Beddoe fought that dude in a meat locker. Before the fight that dude said I want you. Philo Beddoe reaction was priceless then they started fighting. I will admit that dude gave Philo Beddoe a bit of a fight at the beginning, but then Philo Beddoe pummeled that dude. Then when Philo Beddoe fought the bikers that was crazy he made them all look silly. Philo Beddoe fought all those guys and not a bruise on him, other than a mud stain on his plain white t-shirt and the back of his white t-shirt was untucked a little. Other than that the movie was kinda boring

There were some people who were going nuts over the movie because of Clint Eastwood and I even read that the people who really liked the movie were mostly Blue Collar audiences. I also watched Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel's review and they mostly said the same thing that you were speaking and they both gave the movie a thumbs down. I am just surprised that Eastwood would do a second movie because I thought that he had better discernment about the movies that he'd normally chose to do. They said that he had a dry humour and that he doesn't have a lot of range in his acting concerning this movie. I wish that more people would come to your site to listen to your review because I liked that you were fair in announcing the points in this movie. You should do more movies from the past and present because you have a good voice.

Good review because I am watching this movie right now on TCM and I feel the same way as the reviewers' commentary. I am surprised that they made a second movie out of this because it IS beneath Eastwood's acting career. It IS too goofy to watch and I raised my eyebrow at several scenes because some of the scenes made no sense at all and I don't like comedy because actors try to be too funny and it just doesn't work. So as I said, this review is right on target and I just wish that something better were on right now.

We enjoyed the flick but no movie deserves a 7 minute standing ovation. We definitely hear all of your points about what makes the film a little sluggish... but that ending was so satisfying haha. Nice review!

Its an high budget art film. It depends on how much historical knowledge about the Murders you go in with: the words Tex uttered before the murders, the ranch, etc. It falls on deaf ears and blind eyes, unless you decide to question details.

Great analysis. I had to watch this to write a paper on the depression to demonstrate how over emphasizing material needs can dehumanize individuals. This got me in a good mindset for my paper and helped me organize my thoughts on the movie. It was a great movie but I did over look some of the symbols you pointed out because I was distracted by the slapstick lol
